Objects Preservation Administrator

Position Summary:

The Objects Preservation Administrator will serve as the senior collections management adviser to the Director of Library and Collections. The Administrator, as supervisor, will work directly with Missouri Historical Society's Collections Manager, Objects Conservator, and Exhibits Registrar to execute all objects collections preservation, exhibition, and access goals and plans and according to objectives outlined in the institutional strategic plans. 

Essential Functions:

  • Develop strategies to safely and efficiently de-install the current permanent galleries at the Missouri History Museum and supervise the planned de-install
  • Coordinate the safe removal and transfer of the objects collections to temporary facilities or holding areas during the planned renovation of the Library and Research Center's storage areas
  • Develop the digitization workflows for facilitating the digitization of the objects collections and supervise the objects access digitization team
  • Act as the liaison between the collections management catalogers and the collections curators to supervise the completion of objects records
  • Assist with the development and completion of identified grant projects relating to objects collections care and conservation
  • Serve on institutional work groups or committees, as needed

Qualifications:

  • M.A. in Museum Studies, History or related field
  • Minimum eight (8) years historical objects collections management experience
  • Minimum five (5) years supervisory experience
  • Valid Missouri drivers license or ability to obtain such license

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience planning and executing a large-scale objects collection move or storage renovation project
  • Experience supervising a large-scale digitization project 

Skills:

  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with collections management databases, preferably Mimsy XG
  • Ability to solve problems independently and creatively
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines
  • Demonstrated knowledge of curatorial and conservation issues relating to museum collections including best practices for climate control and disaster preparedness
  • Ability to drive large box trucks and utility vans
