Responsible for all aspects of the Kidsmart Gift Shop, including purchasing, inventory control, systems management and staff training and management.

Essential Responsibilities
Fiscal Management

• Develop and manage a strategy for long-term retail growth, which is aligned with the overall mission and strategy of the Miami Children’s Museum.
• Responsible for the store’s annual budget. Establish and achieve targets for retail metrics such as Sales, Cost of Goods, Gross Margin and Net Profit.
• Develop weekly and monthly sales goals.
• Regularly review sales reports, analyze sales trends and adjust inventory and purchasing accordingly to achieve business goals.
• Prepare and distribute monthly “dashboard reports” to senior museum staff highlighting store performance as compared to budget goals and all Key Performance Metrics (KPIs).
• Review all merchandise receiving reports and approve invoices for payment in timely fashion. Works with bookkeeper to resolve any outstanding issues.

Procurement and Inventory Management
• Become proficient in the understanding and use of the Point of Sale system (POS) including data base maintenance, report generation, OTB management, and inventory valuation. Analyze data generated from the computerized retail management system in order to manage various metrics.
• Responsible for all merchandise sourcing and purchasing. Responsible for open-to-buy budget management, product sourcing, procurement, merchandising, returns, markdowns and shrinkage control to ensure that goals are met in revenue, margin and average sale are met or exceeded.
• Issue purchase orders through the POS system. Establish retail pricing to achieve maxim earnings potential.
• Attend related annual merchandise trade shows. Meet with sales reps and negotiate purchasing incentives such as delayed billing, additional discounts, co-op advertising dollars and in-store events and product exclusivity.
• Coordinate all necessary inventories for special exhibitions, related museum events and author appearances. Supervise the return and credit of unsold merchandise.
• Plan, schedule and conduct annual physical inventory.
• Reconcile annual physical inventory count with POS system.

Receiving, Pricing & Stocking
• Supervise all merchandise receipt and processing, including tagging, stocking and display. Ensure proper handling including unpacking and checking against purchase orders and packing lists.
• Follow-up on all damages and wrong shipments. Return or apply for credit as indicated. Process paperwork through to completion.
• Correctly update and maintain the inventory management system (POS) with merchandise receipts and returns.

Operations & Staff Management
• Maintain store’s physical condition and appearance.
• Plan, schedule and maintain weekly and monthly staffing schedules.
• Supervise and train store sales specialists. Train staff on store procedures, loss prevention and point-of-sale (POS) and inventory management systems. Prepare and present annual employee evaluations.
• Develop and motivate staff to achieve optimal performance.
• Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
• Oversee all retail floor operations, including floor staff coverage, cash handling, daily opening and closing procedures
• Coordinate daily, weekly and monthly operational priorities and goals.
• Oversee store opening and closing procedures including cash handling, reconciliations, and deposits.
• Responsible for ordering and maintaining inventory for all office and store support materials including packaging, pricing labels, ticketing, etc.

Customer Relations
• Model and reinforce positive customer service behavior.
• Diplomatically manage the customer’s needs and complaints in a timely and professional manner
• Train and educate the staff on customer service competencies.
Visual Merchandising
• Design and implement a series of changing creative displays that showcase merchandise. Plan and install seasonal merchandising themes.
• Oversee all store display themes and merchandising and restocking.
• Maintain store’s physical condition and appearance. Ensure the security of inventory, assets and personnel.

Basic Job Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in related field.
• 5 years’ senior level retail management and retail purchasing experience.
• Proven experience in sales growth, staff training and management and inventory control procedures.
• Sound verbal and writing skills.
• Proven analytical and organizational skills.
• Ability to lift boxes up to 40 lbs. unassisted.
• Ability to sit at computer, work on foot, bend and or stoop for extended periods of time.
• Proficient use of technology.
