Description:
The Asian Art Museum offers a unique opportunity for a skilled, creative, and resourceful individual to provide a variety of specialized support for intergenerational programming.

This is a temporary, part-time, 16 hour a week position in the Education and Interpretation department.

Working with the Senior Educator for Arts and Gallery Programs, the Public Programs Assistant will assist in the planning, development, and implementation of a variety of annual seasonal celebrations, AsiaAlive demonstration programs, and lectures. Seasonal celebrations include Japanese Bell Ringing, Lunar New Year, Korea Day, and Filipino American History Month.

The Assistant will help create hands-on art activities and interactive activities for intergenerational audiences related to the museum's collection and special exhibitions.

Additionally, the Assistant will perform a wide variety of administrative duties related to the operations of public programs.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. A degree in Studio Art, Art Education, Art History, and Asian Studies coursework is desirable

• One year of relevant experience in art education; museum or gallery experience desired; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

• Strong computer skills. Advanced word processing, spreadsheet, basic web and page layout, and social media expertise. Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite a plus

• Excellent oral and written communication skills; outstanding administrative and organizational skills

• Ability to demonstrate exceptional resourcefulness, creativity, and flexibility; display good judgment; problem-solve; exercise tact and diplomacy at all times; make simple accurate mathematical calculations

• Ability to actively promote educational programs through the development of positive working relationships internal and external to the museum; successfully sort multiple priorities; maintain a sense of perspective and humor while working under pressure; give great attention to detail and accuracy

• Ability and willingness to work a regular weekend schedule; Saturday or Sunday required

• Ability and willingness to assist in the set-up of public programs, including the handling and transporting of sometimes heavy and cumbersome materials

• Knowledge of Asian art and cultures, and a familiarity with the Bay Area arts community desirable

Compensation:
$19.16 per hour*

*Please note: Due to the temporary nature of this position, it does not include a benefits package.
