The Archives of American Art is the nation’s largest repository of documentation of the visual arts and culture in the United States. The Archives’ mission is to collect, preserve, and make available for study records, original papers, photographs, diaries, sketchbooks, and oral history interviews. On the subject of art in America, AAA is the largest archives in the world, holding more than 20 million documents.

As collector for the New York region of the United States, the incumbent conducts a systematic campaign to acquire the most important personal papers and organizational records in the region for the study of art in America. Using critical and professional judgment, he/she is responsible for the selection, the description and the scholarly appraisal of collections through a close examination of their contents. The incumbent serves as Archives’ authority in the region consulting with and advising researchers, including curators, art historians, graduate students and others.
