Description:
The Cameron Art Museum (CAM) is seeking applications for a full-time Executive Director for its 40,000 square foot facility designed in 2002 by the renowned architectural firm of Gwathmey Siegel & Associates. Founded in 1964 as St. John's Art Museum, and formerly located in Historic Wilmington, the facility has become one of the region's most significant cultural centers. CAM is committed to arts education, curating 6-8 exhibitions annually of both historical and contemporary significance. The museum's permanent collection includes work by artists of national and international reputation including works by notable North Carolina artists.
Requirements:
The Executive Director is the highest staff position for the museum and is responsible for providing conceptual leadership, policy making, facility management, community outreach, and fundraising. The Executive Director also has ultimate responsibility for the works of art owned by or lent to the museum, including jurisdiction over their acquisition, exhibition, preservation, study and interpretation.
Education/Experience:
Advanced degree in Art History, Curatorial Studies, Museum Studies or Arts Administration
Skills:
Candidates should have an established record of:
• Curating exhibitions and managing a contemporary art museum.
• Successful fundraising for exhibitions, endowment and public programs.
• Managing personnel and finances.
• Reaching out to philanthropic, political, and other stakeholder groups.
