Description:
Akron Art Museum seeks creative leader with expertise in modern or contemporary art or photography. Rare opportunity: first opening of this position in 26 years. Akron is a highly collegial, affordable community in a region with exceptional culture, recreation, education and transportation.

Responsibilities:
Responsibilities: manages curatorial, library and registration staff. Initiates, manages and implements exhibitions, research, publications, acquisitions and collections policies. Works closely with Accessions Committee and donors. Reports to Director & CEO.

Educational Requirements
Graduate degree in art history with Ph.D. preferred

Skills:
Excellence in writing and public speaking; 5 years minimum museum experience; grant writing and management; proficiency in a digital environment.

Founded in 1922, the Akron Art Museum is a world-class institution showcasing regional, national, and international artwork created since 1850. Its permanent collection specializes in photography, with 2,500 photographs in a collection of 4,800 total objects. In 2007, the museum completed a major addition to its existing structure, creating an internationally-acclaimed landmark building by Viennese architects Coop Himmelb(l)au. Providing visitors a dynamic yet intimate setting for learning and discovery, the Akron Art Museum exhibits works from its permanent collection as well as 12 special exhibitions in 21,000 square feet of gallery space, and holds 145 programs for adults and children throughout the year. The museum served 85,000 visitors and 12,000 schoolchildren in the most recently completed fiscal year. This AAM-accredited institution has 24 full-time and 43 part-time employees.
