Description:
The Pacific Science Center in Seattle, Washington, widely recognized as one of the most innovative science centers in the country and a leading cultural institution in the Northwest, seeks a Major Gifts Officer to manage its major gifts program. This is a new position. The person selected will have the opportunity to build a department that will play a key role in implementing the institution's strategic plan, which will revitalize the Science Center and further enhance its reputation. The Science Center has made a major commitment to the development of the department, and the new Major Gifts Officer will be asked to fill a number of positions that already have budget approval. Although the new person will be expanding the department and establishing new partnerships and relationships in the community, state, and region, he or she will be able to build on a series of existing relationships and some significant successes enjoyed by the Center during its 45-year history, and particularly in the past two years.
Responsibilities:
The Major Gifts Officer will be a senior member of the Center's development team and will report to the Vice President for Development. He or she will be expected to expand strategic approaches and coordinate activities with board committees and volunteers. The position will be responsible for managing a portfolio of 60 to 75 relationships. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of five years' experience in fundraising and a proven record of success in creating long-term relationships. Ability or experience in building a major gifts program for a nonprofit organization will be an important consideration. Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
Educational Requirements:
A minimum of a bachelor's degree is required.
