Description:
This internship provides the intern with projects and duties in all areas of a state park museum. The intern will spend a certain amount of time in collections management, interpretation, visitor services, and administration. However, the focus of the internship will be a specific project chosen in either interpretation or collections management.
Responsibilities:
• Collections management: Inventory of the museum collection, storage upgrades for museum collection, object photography, environmental and Integrated Pest Management monitoring, cataloging photographs, and organizing museum archives.
• Interpretation: Develop and conduct interpretive programs, develop written interpretive materials, create a curriculum-based program for school children, develop a new temporary exhibit, plan and organize a special event.
• Visitor services: Fee and gift shop sales collection, provide visitors with area information.
• Administration: Assist park manager with tasks as assigned.
Educational Requirements:
Must have completed at least one year of graduate college coursework in museum studies, anthropology, or archaeology. A background in Southwest or Great Basin archaeology is preferred.
Skills:
Office automation in word processing, database management,
Adobe PhotoShop and Adobe Illustrator applications.
Special consideration will be given for GIS skills.
