Description:
Saint Vincent College seeks applications for a Curator of the Foster and Muriel McCarl Coverlet Collection beginning June 2008 or sooner. This position also entails teaching responsibilities.
Responsibilities:
The Curator will have responsibility for oversight of the collections which numbers over 300 coverlets. Responsibilities include: management and preservation of the collection, organizing public exhibitions and presentations, serving as a liaison with local groups, organizing and coordinating educational programs for elementary and secondary schools, and developing connections with similar programs in other colleges. He/she will also teach two courses each semester in the School of Humanities and Fine Arts in subjects which might include, but not limited to material culture, history and preservation of textiles, historic preservation, art history, and museum or curatorial practices, as well as director of internships for the Fine Arts Administration major and cultivation of patrons and donors. The faculty community is enhanced by several interdisciplinary initiatives including the Common Texts Project, the Interdisciplinary Writing Program, and a Freshman Seminar program. The Teaching Enhancement Mentoring Program provides opportunities for professional development. The College offers support for conference participation and a modest intramural faculty research grant program. Computer and library support are competitive with other liberal arts institutions. Recent computer initiatives have emphasized the utilization of Blackboard in course instruction.
Requirements:
Minimum requirements include a MA in Fine Arts, American History, or Public History with 5 years experience as a curator or museum experience with textiles.
