Description:
Use your fundraising expertise to help preserve some of America's most significant historic sites! The Director of Historic Sites Development will work to maximize fundraising at National Trust historic sites. Currently 29 in number, they include 3 Frank Lloyd Wright sites; James Madison's Montpelier; the Lower East Side Tenement Museum in NYC; the Museum of African American History in Boston; Philip Johnson's Glass House in New Canaan, CT; and Acoma Sky City, a 1000+ year old Native American pueblo in New Mexico.

Responsibilities:
The Director will ensure that the Historic Sites' staffs have all available support and resources from other Trust departments to assist with fundraising, especially resources from the Resources Development Department itself. The Director will carry a portfolio of prospects and donors whose interest is in historic sites. The Director also will represent the Historic Sites Department and individual Trust Historic Sites in the overall fundraising planning and strategy process. The Director will report to the Vice President for Resources Development but will work closely with the Vice President for Historic Sites Stewardship, individual Site Directors and Site volunteer leadership to develop effective strategies and will assist in implementing those strategies.

Educational Requirements:
B.A.

Skills:
The successful candidate will have 10-15 years of related professional experience, with at least 5-7 years of successful fundraising experience and a demonstrated record of success soliciting and closing major gifts. Experience with annual giving, planned giving, campaigns and event fundraising is preferred, including experience engaging culturally diverse donors, and fundraising for projects that represent the diverse stories told by National Trust historic sites. Previous responsibility leading a development program will be helpful. Affinity for historic preservation is essential. Experience in a museum setting is a plus. The candidate will need the political, communication and organizational skills to work with multiple sites simultaneously. This person will need to travel to the Sites on a regular basis (as much as 25-30% of their time will be away from the office).
