EMPLOYMENT DATES: Some positions start in late April, others in early May (or dates in-between) and work into September or into early October (or dates in-between).
WORK LOCATION AND SCHEDULE:
Seasonal positions will be located at Colonial Michilimackinac and/or Historic Mill Creek in Mackinaw City or at Fort Mackinac on Mackinac Island (which includes Mackinac Island State Park). The employee will be assigned a workstation when he/she is hired, but may be reassigned to other MISPC sites as necessary.
GENERAL EMPLOYMENT INFORMATION:
This position is a temporary, seasonal position which serves at the will of the employer and does not include fringe benefits (other than those mandated by governmental laws). The position will expire at the time employment is ended for the season; the employee does not have any "recall" rights to any position with Mackinac State Historic Parks. Shared subsidized housing available.
DRESS CODE:
The park maintains a dress code for our grounds/maintenance crew. Employees are required to wear a park-issued uniform.

DUTIES:

The seasonal grounds/maintenance position is a part of the Park Operations unit and will work either in Mackinaw City or on Mackinac Island performing grounds, maintenance and possibly janitorial duties.
Examples of the type of work this position will conduct are:
1. Mowing and trimming of lawn areas
2. Cleaning of restroom facilities and bathrooms in offices
3. Collection of trash from grounds or containers, and disposal of same
4. Painting or staining of buildings or other structures
5. Other duties as assigned
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
1. Must be 18 as of first date of employment
2. Must be able to follow verbal and written directions and able to verbally communicate with others
3. Previous experience operating grounds equipment (i.e. lawn mower, weed eater, etc.) preferred, but not required
4. Must have a valid driver's license (for Mainland positions only)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The employee must have the ability to do the following activities with or without reasonable accommodation: the ability to walk over uneven terrain for long distances and up steep inclines, kneeling, sitting and/or standing for long periods of time and carrying/lifting items up to 35 pounds. In order to carry out the duties, the grounds/maintenance crew member will encounter frequent twisting, bending, stooping, reaching, grasping and loading and unloading of supplies. The employee will be exposed to various weather conditions including heat, cold, wind and rain; the employee must be able to work outside in those weather conditions. For those individuals hired to work on the Mackinac Island grounds crew, must have the ability to utilize ferry boat transportation to and from Mackinac Island.
LICENSES:
Some employees hired for a grounds/maintenance crew position will be required to have a valid driver's license. The supervisor of the position will notify you whether this is a requirement of the particular position you are being considered for.
